Grateful for Doug and Dancing

Technically, it won't be winter until a few days before Christmas. But in Pocatello, Idaho, winter is here.

I started my wintery morning in bed, as usual. But one of the glorious things about my husband is that he'll watch the kids in the morning so I can sleep in a little more (if he doesn't have to go to work early). Because today is Veteran's Day, and Doug is a county employee, he had the day off. So I got to sleep in, and then enjoy a brisk morning run. Lovely. And then go to lunch with my girls friends. Sigh of contentment, remembering the "French dip" I had at Perkin's.

This evening, I played Mariah Carey's Christmas CD (one of my favorites) and danced with my children throughout dinner. Saint Doug was being stuck repeatedly by needles at the church, where he was donating blood for potentially the last time ever. They stuck him at least five times, missing his vein every time. "Does it hurt?" they kept asking. Yes, it did.

The kids were allowed to dance with me during dinner, provided that they were still eating. Sure, that could be a choking hazard. But it worked out:). I am grateful for the precious moments and small luxuries I had today.
