Popular

I'm biding my time while I wait for Doug to get back from Salt Lake and tell me all about his very first (mock) trial. I know there was a hung jury, and that Doug's pleased about it because the prosecution (his opponents) did an awesome job. Here's Doug's pleased face.

So...you know how you realize things about yourself and, although they aren't flattering, you go public with them? That's what I'm about to do:

I haven't thought that much about popularity since high school. In college, being liked by hot boys became way more important, to the exclusion even of all thoughts of popularity. Plus, who even tries to be popular in a university setting with 34,000 students? Not me. Probably my younger brother, Marshall:). He'll become student body president (like he did in high school) and set the goal to know every person on BYU campus by name (like he did in high school). I kid you not--it's possible.
But blogging has called up those dusty popularity ideas and I've got to concede that I am not a popular blogger. Whereas many of my friends get 5-10 comments per post, I average about 2. I am, therefore, less popular than those of you who get lots of responses. Maybe a lot of people read my posts, you argue. But my posts don't elicit or require responses.

I've tried to soothe my wounded little writer's heart by reminding myself that few of my family members blog, or look at blogs. But the key to my happiness despite my lack of popularity is as follows: some of my favorite bloggers are those who get very few responses. You know who you are! I luh-huv reading your posts, those of you who bravely post even when no one has responded to your previous post. You are my inspiration.

So, rather than wallow in unpopularity, I'll post. I am a writer. That means I like to write and I care about not only the content of my writing, but the craft of writing itself.

And here are some pictures of Bowen happiness in the last little while: pics of the kids and of my beloved West Virginians and fiancees of West Virginians.

Well, I love that you wrote about the number of comments! We all look at that and think, "come on, why aren't all of you commenting??" It is really fun :) But, you're right. Our blogs really are journals and thoughts to whomever. I'm guilty of reading and thinking "I'll comment later" and then I don't. I wonder if anyone else does this! Anyhoo, I love your blog!!!

I hope you know I love reading your blog. You have a way with words and only another English Major (like myself) can appreciate your talent.

I am excited for your romantic get-away with your hubby! It's well deserved!

I have three responses to your post:

1. I for one am I huge fan of the Bowen blog.

2. I for one am bad at commenting. I attribute this to the fact that I am usually holding a squirmy baby girl while checking blogs, and I don't have the patience to type with one hand.

3. I for one also look at the comment count on my blog and attribute the somewhat scant number of comments to the fact that our blog isn't public and that my parents don't know that leaving a comment is even possible!

But in all seriousness, I really do love reading your posts. It is so fun to see your family grow.

And have fun on your romantic getaway...as if you need to be told!

Hello, you just discovered the key to getting comments--post adorable pictures of your baby in pigtails! :) I know what you mean though. Also you should remind yourself that going private always lowers the amount of commenters. We just get lazy with that extra step of logging in. Personally, I'm with you, I have to write because I love to write. But the comments sure are some delicious icing on the cake.

I always read your blog because I love it when people post more than once a month (that is what I do.) I love to see what is going on in your life. I must admit too that your little girl, I just can't get enough of her little cute face shots!! My blog never gets posts either so I guess that makes us true buddies. Have fun in Vegas! You look amazing by the way. How on earth do you do that? You look like you never had a baby. I am jealous. That is something that girls like in high school. Not only popularity but for girls to want to look like them. Well you got me!! Miss you!

AHHH!!! Guilt! Guilt! Guilt! I love, love, love reading your blog and have something to respond for every single post...but I never actually take the time to write it down. Sorry. I'll be better. But even if I'm not, take comfort in knowing I'm reading and enjoying.

I adore Lucy's pigtails. They have to be my favorite thing in the world.

I'm going to reply to your comment on my blog in case other people have the same questions.

T is for Terrifically Talented Tara! So you don't know this, but you are my inspiration for writing "writing" blogs, those are the ones without pictures. Whenever I feel like I have something to say, I feel like it's a good thing to post it because I'm using the art of writing. Though I for sure am no English major, I definitely appreciate good, creative writing. I appreciate that you are you and that that's why I adore you...did that make sense =). I love you!- amber

Hey, I feel the same way. And though I don't comment often, I do check your blog regularly!
Lucy has amazing amounts of hair. Pigtails already? How awesome is that!
