How's this for a wrench in plans? One of the boys in this picture got into BYU Law School!
Okay, it was Doug:). And in case you're curious, that's a stellar sunburn, not a birthmark. He applied at BYU to be a visiting student, which means his official degree would be from WVU, but he'd complete his last year of law school at BYU, paying BYU tuition.
I'm feeling mixed about the whole thing . I LLLLOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEE my West Virginia friends and I ache to be with them again. I want to see their new babies and go on stroller rides together, and to the pool, and host showers with them, and keep learning how to quilt and cook with them. I've been looking forward to living next door to Mary for the last several months and Doug and I have been excited to go face our wonderful lives in West Virginia.
But
1) BYU costs $16,000 less than WVU. We'd be out of debt a lot quicker with that kind of difference.
2) And our families are in Utah.
3) Doug and two of his brothers would all be at BYU together.
4) They could attend BYU football games together (I'd go too!)
5) My parents could actually hold and love Baby Lucy immediately without us agonizing about the perfect dates for my mom to fly out and then trying to figure out what on earth we should do about Christmas with flight prices so high.
6) Isaac could get to know his cousins better.
7) I could help my grandparents.
8) Doug could have quality time with family he hasn't seen recently.
9) We could go to devotionals together...
10) and Utah has Kneaders and Costa Vida.
11) Peanut and I could literally play every single day (probably less though because Doug and I are thinking of living at the dreaded Wymount Terrace so we can be in Doug's brother's ward and Doug can walk to school--which would mean we wouldn't have to buy another car).
12) I could play with my Utah friends:).
13) BYU is a top-tiered school, meaning that Doug's education would hopefully be fantastic at BYU, facilitating an easier time passing the Bar.
14) Plus, BYU would look good on his resume.
15) It would also help him network in Utah later, should he choose to work there.
BUT:
I feel special and valuable in West Virginia, and I'd feel like just 1 of a million pregnant girls at BYU (until I remembered that each of us is special, regardless of whether or not our bellies protrude:)). I'd feel OLD at BYU.
I love the smell of honeysuckle in West Virginia, and I love living on the east coast. I have some family there, albeit several hours away.
Again, my compelling reason to go back to WV is my beautiful, treasured friends.
I love you, West Virginians, and I promise we won't go anywhere without Heavenly Father's approval!

Oh my gosh!!! That is awesome!! Okay, so I would totally miss you. Buuutttt I have to admit, if Ryan got in there, we would be there. Family is soooo much closer there rather than here and I totally understand that. That alone is enough for me. Oh, but I do love you to pieces and will miss you. Just want you to know that I understand totally if you were to pick Utah.
Congratulations! That is awesome. I think I would rather be close to family for all the reasons you mentioned, and out of debt sooner, and use that "out of debt quicker" money to take a few trips to visit my friends. That is big news. Have fun!!!
That's big news! Life is ever changing and as long as you're where God wants you to be you'll happy.
We'll miss you here, that's for sure. (If you pick Utah) Family is such a blessing, and as much as I love my friends....family always comes first.
Sooooo sad for us, if you choose to stay, but I am soooooo happy for you! Believe me, if BYU had a dental school and Daniel got accepted, there would not be much hesitation for our moving out there--except for the fact that my family is out here...hmmm...we would actually have to put some serious thought and prayer into that one! I hope that you feel good about whatever decision you make. I do have to say though, if you end up staying in Provo, you will have to let us come visit when we are out at Christmas so that our little girls can meet! We love you lots!
Oooooohhhhh....so THAT'S why you mentioned Utah!! Congrats to Doug! BYU is supposed to have an awesome team this year. Oh, and I think you've forgotten one more plus to it. You can put a little helmet and some skiis on Isaac and watch him fly down the mountain! Okay...maybe not. I've been having definite ski withdrawals the past year. Anyway, you definitely should go visit SuePie while in Provo. She just had a baby girl last month. Cute as a button. Baby Elizabeth and Baby Lucy could be good friends. I'm not sure if a Utah trip is in the works for us this next year, but I'll let you know!
Wow!! That is a change of plans!! But what a wonderful blessing to have the option to attend BYU!! I totally know what you mean about just being "another" pregnant girl at BYU or in Utah. I felt that way when we moved here.
Your pros of living in Utah sure look impressive. Mary and Phil would be sad not to have you living by them but you have to do what you have to do. I'm sure whatever decision you make will be the right one. Good luck! How is the pregnancy going? Oh, and I love the name Lucy!
Yay! I know how you feel about loving the east coast, because we are both original east coasters. I had to laugh about your being afraid to feel not special and pregnant at BYU because I could see how I might feel that way too! But the cheaper price tag is pretty huge. Good luck with the decision! Also, I read the Golden Compass books as well and I was totally confused what everyone's big deal was...until I read the third book. I have to admit that I was pretty dang offended by that book. So I'll be curious to see what you think by the time you finish the trilogy. But if you're not offended, the power to ya! (I actually didn't know anything about the controversy when I read them, I just heard they were popular and liked the picture on the front, which is of course how I judge all books!) lol. So I formed my own little opinion without the help of Utah mormons (although let's face it, they have helped me form so many other important opinions, such as how not to fluff my hair, and how to love fried scones).
Good luck at BYU. It sound like a blessing for everything to work out. You will be missed here even though I won't be missing you in WV but in NYC.
I will think of you often as I roam the streets of the big city and remember your excitement for that city.
Love ya!*
