So we're going through with it. BYU, here we come!
Some of our preparations so far:
Doug put down a deposit for his spot at BYU.
I have unfrozen my Gold's Gym pass (happy day--I didn't know if I'd ever get to collect the remainder of time I had left on the pass!) so I will have a free place to work out and free childcare the whole time we're in Utah. This is awesome!
I cried on the phone with one of my West Virginia friends when I told her we were going to go through with this.
I contacted the Medicaid office in the Provo area and Medicaid will be sending me information here so I can apply quickly and have health coverage for myself and my littlest baby ASAP. Do any of you have recommendations for OBGYN's or midwives in the Provo area?
Doug has cancelled his WVU student loans and notified WVU of his decision, and they'll work with him to make sure the transition is seamless and he gets credit for everything he does.
I think he has (joyfully) notified Law Review at WVU that he won't be with them this year. He is so excited to get out of that with a good excuse, while still able to be proud of himself for making it!
We have reserved space in a U-Pack truck for our stuff in WV to come to UT.
We've done some intense apartment and house hunting online. We want to rent a three-bedroom place and have differing ideas regarding acceptable rent. I'm happy with a functional dump and Doug wants something nice. Location is also a critical factor. If we aren't within walking distance of campus, we need to have another car. We'd really like to get into Wymount, but no apartments have been available for ANY size apartment in the complex.
Doug has started researching the cheapest flights back and forth so he can load our stuff and two friends have said they would take him to and from the airport.
We've contacted our landlady in West Virginia, and she is being a good sport about finding other tenants quickly so we don't have to pay rent there longer than necessary.
That's about it, so far. Our next consideration relates to what we want to bring to Utah from West Virginia. We may be selling and giving away some of our stuff, so I'll post later when we agree on what we'd be happy selling and giving away.
And I just like posting beach pictures, so that's my justification for the water baby.

Okay, so I am sad that I won't get to see you. Hopefully I can visit you if I ever go to Utah any time. It may be years, but you better expect a call from me. You have no idea how much you were loved and how much more you will be missed. I am glad though that you have got to do this amazing thing. It will be so worth it and you will get to have family around which is awesome. We love you.
I am going to miss you guys! I was looking forward to seeing you all at play group and stuff since I am able to go to some now. I am happy for you though, I hope everything goes well for you. You will be missed! West Virgina won't be the same without the Bowens!
I'm sorry for your WV friends, but all I can think is YAY! Yay for your Utah friends. My sister-in-law loved her ob-gyn so much that they had a second baby before they left Provo (a little crazy in my eyes, but they really did love her). Her name, funnily enough, is Dr. Savage. I could find out more info for you if you would like. :)
I think this is a great decision, even if it comes at a bit of an emotional price. Utah is such a fun place for kids, though. I really miss it. Congrats to Doug on his achievement!
all i can say is i hope you don't jinx our cougs...it seems like byu football has been doing very well since the bowens have been living in wv...hopefully there is more behind their success than that. good luck with the move and congrats to ya'all
Oh happy day! This is the best news I've had all day! I'm so glad that you'll be close by and i think our little boys will need to become bff's. And I love my obgyn but he's up in American Fork (I delivered there and LOVED it). If you're interested, let me know and I'll give you some info.
Congrats to Doug and on your decision to move to Utah! When were were newly married at BYU we lived at Union Square apartments, just a few blocks south of campus. They have 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, fully furnished. Here's the website: http://www.union-squareapartments.com/visitor.htm.
