My favorite answering machine messages are always from Doug when he says, "Tara, you better call me ba-ack... I've got some great new-ews!" I grin, delete his message, and call him in a three-second time-span, eager to hear the great new-ews. I've found out about lots of exciting things this way.
Today's great new-ews was that Doug kicked the stuffing out of one of his law school exams. One of the (in my opinion) horrible things about law school is that your grade can be completely determined by one test. You know how in undergraduate classes, your participation, several quizzes, several essays, and the final exam all matter to determine your final grade? Almost all of Doug's classes have been one-shot wonders, where his grade on the final is all that matters. Law students at WVU have to wait for a month after taking their finals to see how they fared in their classes, so Doug just got his grade today for a class.
So here's to Doug and his success! Not only is he the best looking creature on earth (and therefore in his law school) but he also feels increased confidence in his ability to excel, and that makes me happy.
