Visitors After the Storm

Yesterday was supposed to be partly cloudy, about 82 degrees, end of story. Thank you, weather forecast on the Internet.

But I was antsy yesterday afternoon and really wanted to get out of the house. (Isaac has a cold so I'm trying to keep him away from other kids. That naturally results in antsiness.) So I took my kids on a run.

Lots of wind made for a challenging run up Butte Road with the kids. And the thick clouds and thunder were ominous. We got to the park and got to see lightening. A good mother would take her kids home right away but I stayed for a few minutes, my wistful hope of a book tucked under the stroller, destined not to be read. As I ran home, it began POURING. I love my Schwinn stroller for its built in weather-all. The kids stayed nice and dry while I was drenched. I think my little family elicited a lot of sympathy on the way home. But it was such a rush! There's something so studly about working out in the rain. I still remember playing soccer in the rain, particularly as goalie. I pity my mother's van in my memory for the mud-caked daughter she had to let in.

When the kids and I got home, we saw horses huddled together in the corral behind our backyard. It looked like their riders had abandoned them when the storm came. A few hours later, the horses somehow got out of the corral and decided to come visit us. Naturally, when I snuck outside to take a picture, they took off. They were recovered a little while later.
And my status report is as follows: I would like to find a job that requires VERY few hours a week. I've been searching without success. My two ideas center on using my degree (but I can't find an English teaching job at ISU or online yet) or doing childcare at Gold's Gym (so I can have a free membership, free childcare, and be with my kids.) I'm just in the contemplating and searching stage, and I'm not sure that i really want to get a job. I just want it to fall in my lap...

You are tough girl! Two kids in a jogging stroller up hill in the rain!
Speaking of which, that reminds me when one of my friends at work told me she saw a 9 month pregnant woman running on Irwin Street and she couldn't believe her eyes. I think that was you right before Isaac was born!

The Gold's Gym thing would be cool. I'm an editor, and that lends itself perfectly to just working a few hours a week at home. I don't know if that side of things interests you, though.

There IS something studly about working out in the rain. I wholeheartedly agree! I don't know what it is but I just feel awesome running in the rain - not the snow though. I have to draw the line somewhere.

That is what kinda happened to me--a job just practically fell into my lap (of course I did have to find it, but the timing and everything else worked out perfectly). So I wish the best in your search and wish I was so awesome that I would like running in the rain. :)
