A Beautiful Summer

I'd love to have more than an hour to upload pictures from the summer so I have that keepsake for my family. Since I don't have that kind of time right now, I can at least provide a few updates:

Brooklyn's potty training is going really well. I am so glad we went for it at the start of the summer so my dream of seeing my daughter in a bathing suit without having to buy more swim diapers could come true. This has been great. She still has potty treats because the one week we didn't use them she had accidents. She loves to share potty treats with Isaac ("Idee") and Lucy.

Lucy's learning to read. It is painfully slow, and she forgets what she learned two minutes ago. But when I have been tempted to throw my hands up in the air and declare that she might be mentally handicapped, I am suddenly reminded that I didn't learn to read until the first week of first grade. I know Lucy can get this if we work on it every day.

Learning Time: Isaac and Lucy have workbooks and need to do four pages every day. It has been awesome! The kids are doing a great job, and it has become a good part of our routine every day. I wake up, feed Cason, usually run, work on my class, and then help kids get going. They clean their rooms, have breakfast and we go to swim lessons. Then we come home and do learning time and eventually do lunch and quiet time. I've also started bringing the workbooks to church, so the kids work on them during sacrament. It has helped the kids practice being quiet so they don't disrupt other learners, and they are learning new things. Brooklyn usually colors or cuts paper or plays with playdoh, and Cason usually makes cute baby noises and practices his rolling.

Our house in Pocatello is getting close to being sold. The buyer has given escrow money to the bank, the inspector is scheduled, contracts have been signed. We just worry about the house inspection turning the buyer off. If that happens, we'll rent our house out some more. We would love to walk away from it, but the world won't end if this isn't the time.

Doug's job continues to be a challenge, but he gets along well with everyone at work, and looks forward to better things on the horizon. I have to be vague about this right now. But we're hopeful.

My job keeps me a little too busy, but I hope this is a great summer. I don't have to be a supervisor for other teachers this summer, so I'm feeling a little fancy free. I do have a class I'm teaching this summer, but I hope to figure out a way to just work on it in the mornings and during nap time most of the time.

That's it for now!
