Life is going by too fast, and playing catch-up every week after adventures makes it even more frantic. Last week, I went down to Utah to watch my little nephew Blake and play with Peanut. We had 9 kids total, and we braved a pool, the petting zoo, and several bike/stroller rides. It was so fun, and it was such a relief to leave all those children behind and go to St. George on a "girls trip" with my mother-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces. It was so refreshing not to be in charge of anybody except myself!!!!! The relaxing St. George trip was interrupted when my mother-in-law decided to marry Dave Peters on Saturday in Vegas. They knew each other for one month and eight days before they got married. But he's awesome, so I hope this works out beautifully!!!!! We drove down to Vegas for the wedding and a buffet, then came back up to St. George, then went back north on Sunday. I felt so lucky to see the wedding, but it definitely made for a whirlwind experience. . .
Then back home to Idaho to play frantic catch-up with work, then off to Island Park on Friday afternoon to play for the weekend. We were surprised to see Doug's aunt and cousins there, and enjoyed their company and that of a black bear, which we followed in our car for ten minutes on Sunday. It was so awesome.
A clean house and car, two hours of schoolwork, and four loads of laundry later, here I sit, desperate to write down Brooklyn's first words so I can erase them from our fridge dry-erase board. So here are the words our little girl is able to say at 2 years and almost one month:
baby; no; thank you; over there; mama; Daddy; mine; uh-oh; turtle; ball; duck; bubble; bye bye; pee pee; peek-a-boo; beep!; belly; bird; nose; me; dirty; bottle; water; color; bum; uh-huh; uh-uh; milk; flower; monkey; more; bump; caterpillar; up, please!; boy; butterfly; ladybug; eagle; lion; porcupine; shoe.
Our other kids spoke much earlier and said much more at this point than Brooklyn has, so I decided to monitor Brooklyn's words on the fridge as I noticed them, and talk to her doctor at her 2-year-old appointment. She isn't necessarily going to have speech delay, because she's above the baseline, but I'll keep watching her progress. She links a lot of her words together, but prefers to say the sounds animals make, rather than the actual names (like "Woof woofs" and "meows"), and she uses her basic words for almost everything. For example, if she sees me fold Doug's shirt, she'll say, "Daddy!" So we'll see if she will expand her vocabulary a lot in the next little while.
Okay, I 'm happy I got all that down. Now I can work on my budget for the month and do more schoolwork. Thank goodness for naptime:).

Sounds like Simon is similar to Brooklyn in terms of speech development. Lewis was a much earlier talker than Simon is, but I see him saying more and more words each day, so I feel he's OK. He says animal sounds instead of the actual name too. And his favorite word is...NO. I hear it about 100 times a day. It sounds like things are going well for you! Enjoy your summer! :)
